Lincoln — Kodiak Projects, Brisbane and Noosa
Project Lincoln is a major renovation of a traditional Queenslander in Wilston, one of Brisbane's most sought-after inner-north suburbs. Working with Brisbane design studio Big House Little House, we transformed a classic character home into a warm, open, light-filled home made for modern family life — without losing the timber bones and street presence that make a Queenslander what it is. Inside, the plan was reworked to open up and flow. Outside, the silhouette was kept in character while gaining a contemporary edge. Done properly, the right way.

Wilston sits within a Brisbane City Council character area, so the home's street presence mattered from day one. We kept the classic Queenslander silhouette — the pitched roof, the timber, the verandah lines — and let the contemporary work sit quietly behind it. From the street, it reads the way it always has. Step through, and it opens into something made for now.

Wilston is one of Brisbane's most established inner-north suburbs — leafy streets, character homes, and a short run into the city. It's the kind of address families hold onto for the long term. The brief was to give this home a future to match its setting: keep what makes it special, fix what didn't work, and build something that lasts.
The original plan was closed in and compartmentalised. We reworked it into one open, connected level — living, dining and kitchen reading as a single space, with light drawn deep into the home.
Generous, connected spaces that suit a quiet weeknight as much as a houseful of friends. Warm timber floors, a calm material palette and natural light everywhere it counts — a home that brings people together.

The material palette is deliberately restrained: black joinery against warm oak floors, stone benchtops, and soft white walls that let the timber and the light do the talking. Full-height doors and generous openings keep everything feeling calm and connected.
Every room was planned around how the family actually lives — where the light falls, where people gather, and how each space can carry more than one use.
A traditional Queenslander, reimagined for modern family life — three bedrooms, one open living heart, and a backyard built for Brisbane summers.
Nothing here is accidental. Joinery is built in, not bought in. Storage disappears into the walls. The result is a home that feels effortless to live in — because the hard thinking happened long before anything was built.
Behind the contemporary finishes, the home is built to work hard: a double garage off the street, a dedicated laundry and mudroom, and clever storage tucked through every level.

BY ROOM
In the kitchen, everything has a place and nothing is on show. A full walk-in pantry carries the load, appliances are integrated into the joinery, and the island becomes the natural centre of the home.

The rear of the home opens right out to a covered alfresco, an outdoor kitchen and an in-ground pool — the living space simply keeps going outdoors. Established planting and a low-maintenance garden wrap it all in privacy. In Brisbane, this is where a family really lives.

Project Lincoln ran for nine months, and it was as much a working relationship as a build. The owners loved being on site — so we brought them right into it, with more than a dozen updates and milestone walk-throughs as the home took shape, room by room. Working alongside Big House Little House, a Brisbane studio that has specialised in Queenslander homes since 2007, we held onto the character that made the house theirs and rebuilt the rest to last.
Before we handed over the keys, the team walked the finished home together and shared the parts we were proudest of. There were a few teary moments — theirs and ours. That's the part that never makes the photographs.
